An exposure scenario is a set of conditions or assumptions about the sources, pathways, and receptors of exposure to a contaminant. Exposure scenarios are used to estimate the exposure dose and the risk for different populations or groups at a Superfund site. Some examples of exposure scenarios for Superfund sites are: - A resident living near a site with contaminated soil and groundwater who may be exposed by ingesting or inhaling soil particles, drinking or cooking with contaminated groundwater, or having skin contact with soil or groundwater. - A worker at an industrial facility located on a site with contaminated soil and air who may be exposed by inhaling volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from indoor or outdoor air, ingesting or having skin contact with soil particles, or accidentally ingesting chemicals during work activities. - A recreational user of a site with contaminated surface water and sediment who may be exposed by swimming, boating, or fishing in the water body, ingesting fish or shellfish from the water body, or having skin contact with water or sediment. - A construction worker at a site with contaminated soil and buried waste who may be exposed by inhaling dust or vapors from excavation activities, ingesting or having skin contact with soil or waste materials, or accidentally ingesting chemicals during work activities. ...add reference/source...
